A barista is a coffee expert who can’t just be defined simply as a person that creates and/or prepares coffee drinks with the knowledge of equipment handling; more than an expert dedicated to the service, creation and elaboration of coffee based recipes, a barista is also an expert of all the processes of the coffee bean itself; from the bean to the cup. The barista brings emphasis to the last link of the production chain, and understands the responsibility that implies in receiving the work of many other professionals that dedicate their time and effort, to bringing him, a prime subject of unique characteristics. This is why the barista should have the capability and final responsibility of exalting the work of the entire chain of production in the drinks he brews. A good barista should have the basic knowledge of the coffee culture on a worldwide level; have the right equipment handling technics and a clear concept of client services. In addition, he/she must have the capacity to transmit to the final consumer any cultural information requested as a complementary part to the drinks that he/she prepares.
