Farm La Rivera has 7 hectares of land; they creates shade for their coffee with crops of plantain, avocado, banana and guamos. It also have 3 blocks of native forest.
Don Carlos Julio Calvo bought this property 10 years ago. He lives there with his wife and three children. Economically dependent directly of the produce of this land. Despite his young age (45 years), lack of opportunity he never learned to read.
Access to the property is very difficult, 2 hours jeep ride from the town of Pijao.
The house is just started to build and they live in two rooms that have so far been completed by themselves.
Don Carlos Julio believes that if he works handling in a very special way his coffee crops varieties caturra and Castillo located at 1750 meters above sea level, he will have a successful future. As a sign of that today he gives us a balanced coffee cup, accompanied by exotic fragrances, medium body and lively acidity with a rich and fruity aftertaste.
The farm has two sources of abundant clear water.
School for their children is 1 hour walk.
They have no health post or hospital nearby, the only one is in the town of Pijao, two hours away.
